The Wapato Film Initiative for Youth

I told you guys I'm doing different hings these days. But I'm keeping entertainment in the back of my head and whenever I have the time haha.
Here's a slice of what I typically do for school. All hypothetical of course-- I wish I could've built this.

The most recent architectural project for PSU's professional track that was a part of. The challenge was to design a film center that educated and housed teenagers on the never-inhabited Wapato Jail. The jail itself was a complete failure on the government's part and still consumes 450-500,000 dollars of taxpayer money each year to keep it running. The only income that it does make is from third party film producers that visit the jail regularly for its pristine condition as a set.

The final design came about through a strategic use of the space given between the existing jail’s exterior limits and its relative connections. The facility would be a reflection, a phantom of the jail’s original therapeutic efforts that had seized to exist just after its creation. Connected to the original, through two passages ways, one for the public and new initiatives. One connection would become necessary and nestles in a vertical shaft that housed a staircase in the sleeping wards, allowing students to ascend the jail’s four floors for accessing film sets. This is essential since most of the filming already taking place happens within the wards and main facilities.
